Laser Perforating for MAP

Laser micro-perforating is a process of generating a series of small through holes for MAP (modified atmosphere packaging). Perforations can also be used to help achieve controlled airflow and moisture release in various packaging products such as extended shelf life for fresh produce and burst protection for changing air pressure.

Laser Scoring for Microwave Venting

Our patented AcuVent technology is used to produce controlled depth laser score segments into flexible packaging materials at high processing speeds. These laser score-segments (vents) are weakened areas of the material and when placed into a microwave the steam generated from within the package bursts through the vents, automatically ventilating the package for a perfect microwaved product.

Laser Scoring for Consumer Convenience

Laser scoring is a process of utilizing a focused spot of energy to remove material to a specified depth. Preco's AcuTear laser scoring technology provides easy-open / easy-tear flexible packaging for controlled tear propagation while maintaining package strength and barrier properties. Laser scoring can be a straight line for contour to allow access to the zipper and peel & reseal closure features.

Common questions for laser processing flexible packaging material.

Laser Perforating

How small of a hole can a laser perforate?

75-micron diameter holes are very typical but we have the technology to drill hole sizes down to 35 microns in diameter consistently.

How fast can you perforate hole diameters of 75 – 100 micron ?

With Preco's patented Beam Compression technology we can drill holes at speeds up to 762 m/min (2500 ft/min).

I need 6 mm (0.236") diameter holes in my lid stock material, can lasers do this and how fast is that technology?

Using our lasers to cut 6mm holes is not an issue, processing speed is dependent on material type, material thickness, and the density of holes. 

Laser Scoring

Can a recyclable PE/PE film be laser scored for an easy-open feature?

Preco has patented and proprietary technologies that other laser providers do not have and we’ve had success scoring PE materials. For questionable materials, we recommend that we trial your material using one of Preco's in-house equipment.

Can your lasers score down to the micron level?

Since it is very difficult to measure the depth of the laser score line, Preco controls the depth of the laser feature through its closed-loop power control. Closed-loop power control is a technology to control the lasers output to a very precise level giving our systems an edge over the competition.
